Brislington Neighbourhood Centre is a resource for everyone in the neighbourhoods of Brislington, St Anne’s and Broomhill. Our aim is to provide a welcoming, accessible, high quality range of services that respond to the needs of the local community. We are always interested to hear your comments and suggestions
We are:
Ali Hender, the Centre Manager. Ali is supported by a team of trustees and is responsible for the successful delivery of our services to the community. Lynne Rickets is the After School Club playleader, supported by Richard Tozer and Jayne Payne. Richard Tozer is responsible for managing the lunch club, and supporting our fantastic volunteers: Robin, Molly, Brenda, Beryl, Maureen, Viv and Doreen. Lyn Collins runs the Holiday Playscheme, and her husband Jim Collins is the deputy playleader.
Our trustees are: Haidi Haskins, Simon Crew, Andrew Jones, Doreen Beacham, Doreen Hares, Roy Marsh, Antonia Mullaly, Jane Glasson, Steve Pearce, Rosamund Groves and Simon Bale. Our centre is also kept spick and span thanks to our cleaner Rosemary Wilcox.
The Brislington Neighbourhood Centre (directions) was established in 1989 in the old residential premises of St Cuthberts Church Verger’s house, and the adjacent Parish hall. The centre was a response by the four local churches to provide broad community services to local people in Brislington, Broomhill, and St. Anne’s where there is no statutory provision other than two youth clubs. The Management Committee members are volunteers and are always seeking new members from the community or service users.
The centre works within a framework that can be divided into three main objectives:
- To alleviate the effects of poverty.
- To identify and respond directly to local peoples’ needs, encouraging user involvement to their full potential.
- To enable local people to organise and participate in the centre’s activities and services.
Funding for the work of the centre comes from a variety of sources. Currently, we are funded by:
